If there is one thing you can do to improve your health, it is to eat more vegetables. Eating an average of eight servings a day of fruits and vegetables can lower your risk for heart attack or stroke by 30 percent.
Don’t be afraid to expand your vegetable horizon during this phase. You might discover something new in the recipes or on the list of approved foods—give it a try!
EAT OPTIMAL FATS
Fats are used in every cell of the body, where they help form part of the cells’ walls. They’re also used as fuel for energy, help us make many of our hormones, and form our brain tissue. You need healthy fats to maintain a healthy body.
Unfortunately, many people are getting their daily fats from refined oils that are extracted with the use of solvents like hexane in their production process. Once extracted, these oils are heavily used in processed foods. The most common are canola, cottonseed, soy, and corn oils. Around 90 percent of the crops used to produce these oils are genetically modified to sustain the spraying of large amounts of herbicides.
When you consume foods containing canola, cottonseed, soy, and corn oils, or use them to cook, you are likely ingesting both the herbicides and solvents. These substances can go on to alter your gut flora and irritate your intestines. If that isn’t bad enough, many of the polyunsaturated oils like canola, safflower, flax, and corn oil will easily spoil in storage or while you are cooking with them.
